Thanks for the link Carl! That is very similar to what I had in mind. What would be really cool is for it to have built-in support for the Apple wireless keyboards and mice (or at the very least support for Bluetooth versions of both). It would also be nice if it could be used as a desktop extension for parking small desktop gadgets off your main desktop while it is in its docking cradle. I don’t think it needs an optical drive either, as the OS would be in ROM and it would have USB ports for connecting external drives or syncing to a PC. I really hope they don’t cripple it by using an iPod style connector, though. USB + mini DisplayPort are a much better choice.

Mac OS X is the best OS in my opinion. There are a few factors.

I bought my mother an old 400mhz iMac on ebay.ca for $40 and it runs Mac OS X 10.3 with only 128 MB of RAM. Talk about efficiency.

I bought a used 1.6 ghz ThinkPad T41 thinking that I could run Vista, as I get it for free being a Computer Science student, and to my dismay it took about half an hour to launch even with 512 MB of RAM. I later replaced the OS with Ubuntu 8.10 and using Sun’s VirtualBox I could run Windows XP Professional over top and it ran quite smoothly with my 512 MB.

Aero glass is pathetic. The fact that it can’t run on any video card with less than 128 MB video memory. Considering Apple’s Aqua can be run on 16 MB of video memory.

I had never thought of selling everyone the ultimate version, but now that you mention it, it is perfectly sensible. So sensible, in fact, that the company MS has become will never even think of doing it.

Likewise, always good to hear forward thinking people. This type of product is the missing link in their portfolio and I have no doubt they will address it. Hopefully they take design hints from forward thinking enthusiasts.
